Forms of Content you must know if you are creating Web based business which you need to Moderate

Different Forms of Content

21st century is a data driven world. Trillions of data getting published every second throughout the web. Based on the business you have on the web you need to filter out the content which is not appropriate in your platform. The content you want to filter not necessarily in the form of text but can be in other forms. The various types of content which can be in your business websites or your social media platform and you need to control over that are.

Text Based

The text based context is the most general form of content getting published in the web platform. From social media websites to market places, forums, personal blogs, comment threads and many more you can see such type of content. The context might be in the form of Personal threat, hate speech on religion/caste/creed/ethnicity/nationals and is not limited to this. Sexual provoking comments on the social media, Bullying and harassment on social media targeting any user, secretly trading any illegal things and many more.

One needs a few seconds to make a decision should I Leave the platform or not when we come across any offensive content. Hence moderating the content is the most vital part of any organisation to build fruitful relationships with the user or customer in the web.

Platform popular eg: Quora, Tumblr, Reddit, Twitter

Image based

It is the other form of content which is of moderate complexity to figure out if the content is eligible to stay in the platform or not. Here the moderate complexity term used with respect to Automated moderation. In case of automated moderation, system automatically scans the image before it allow to get published on the platform and it takes the decisions automatically without any human interventions. The image can be explicitly pornographic image, image can be depicting the accident of any human, image might be of surgical operations with visible innards in the operation theater etc. all this might not be appropriate for many users. Hence understanding the pattern becomes difficult if the moderation is automated.

The whole operation becomes more complex when any text is added to the depicted image. Image might be clearly understood by the Image processing algorithm but what about the context associated with that. The context associated with the image can change the overview of the image sometimes.

For eg: An image of animal harm is there (which is violating)  with the text in the image which is an awareness (non violating) makes the overall content non violating. In such a scenario along with automation human intervention is required or Image processing as well as Natural Language processing works simultaneously which makes the algorithm more complex.

Platform eg: Pinterest, Vine, Instagram.

Video Based

Video based context is the most complex form of the content and it's a time consuming process to filter out the content when done by human moderator. This is the place where AI is more demanding to curb the time taken by the individual moderators. Even if a single frame of the video contains violating content, the overall video turns into violating.

Nowadays the rate of video content added to the web is growing rapidly because it attracts the customer to a larger extent compared to text based. It also helps in making understanding a particular product very easily. The evaluation process of video content is very time consuming because you need to check three parts of video.

  1. The video content which is the visible one.

  2. The audio content

  3. The subtitle associated with the Video.

If the subtitle or the audio found contains hate speech or any kind of violating word that degrades any individual need to take action.

Not only this, to improve the UX (user experience) duplicate content, bad quality content is taken down from the platform.

Platform eg: Youtube, Vimeo, Linkedin, Pinterest, Wechat, Flipgrid.
